On the road. Without their best player. Against the league's best player. Against the preseason league favorite. In a rematch of the 2014 America East title game.

It was set up for the UAlbany men's basketball team to lose to Stony Brook on Monday night. But they didn't.

Will Brown's team got 21 points from Evan Singletary, and then got 16 points and 13 rebounds from Sam Rowley, to beat the SeaWolves by a score of 64-47.

The win moves the Danes to 10-7 overall and 5-0 in league play.

“They’ve never lost in here, I thought it was a gutsy effort tonight,” Brown said. “We did a nice job of mixing it up defensively, not allowing Stony Brook to get in a rhythm. This game was all about tempo, if we didn’t turn the ball over offensively good things could happen.

The Danes also held reigning league player of the year Jameel Warney to 16 points.

The win came without leading scorer Peter Hooley, who has left the Danes indefinitely to return home to Australia. His mother, Sue, is battling colon cancer.

No timetable is set for Hooley's return.

The Danes will play at Hartford on Thursday.
