Nothing in horse racing shocks me anymore, especially in the Kentucky Derby. Tiz the Law is the heavy favorite but it only takes a bad trip in a field of 17 to lose. Giacomo at 50-1 won the Derby in 2005, and nobody gave that horse trained by John Shirreffs a chance that year. Shiffeff trains Honor A.P. Saturday’s second choice at 5-1. I am not suggesting Tiz the Law is going to lose, because I don’t think he will, even from the dreaded post position 17. Tiz is the fastest horse in race, and when they turn for home, Tiz will do what he always does, go flying by his competition. All he needs is a good trip from Jockey Manny Franco.
