On Thursday afternoon, former New York Mets and New York Yankees all-star Darryl Strawberry jumped on The Drive with Charlie & Dan. Strawberry just wrote a new book, "Turn Your Season Around: How God Transforms Your Life." Darryl is now an ordained minister and has written several best selling books about his struggles with fame and addiction. He has been open and honest about his struggles in the past and he was definitely that way on The Drive.

Some interviews are more fun than others. Some hit home more than others. This was a little bit of both. I grew up less than 20 miles from Shea Stadium. In the early 1980's, going to Mets games was part of our lives. When you asked someone what they wanted to do, often the response was, "let's go to the game."

May 6, 1983, was Darryl Strawberry's first game. I had just wrapped up my freshman year of college. My group of friends knew who was coming up from the minors that day. Strawberry was going to save our horrible team. As always, we bought the cheapest tickets and sat as close as we could to right field. Darryl delivered on that promise and as history tells 3 years later the Mets and their faithful fans had a World Championship.

Darryl was a fun interview. I enjoyed reliving moments that were so much fun for me as a New York Mets fan and his love for George Steinbrenner from his days with the Yankees. It was hard to watch Darryl not reach his potential as a player. We all know people that we felt had more to give but substance abuse took those opportunities away.

Darryl said during the interview that life is like a 9 inning game. You keep getting more at bats to make that something special happen. It appears to me that Darryl is still getting hits. Thanks again to our good friend Jay Horowitz, VP Alumni Relations, New York Mets for setting this up. Darryl's book is called "Turn Your Season Around: How God Transforms Your Life" and is available on Amazon or wherever you purchase your books. The interview with Darryl Strawberry will re-air Friday at 5:45pm on The Drive with Charlie & Dan. Below is the interview if you can't tune in. And if you want to know his favorite teammate, well, surprisingly it's not Doc Gooden. Click below and you can listen to Darryl talk about his two favorites, Derek Jeter and Gary Carter.
